Columbia Park

Dr. Richard Vincent found the sight walking his dogs. At that time it was a swampy neglected space. He had the vision of rugby there. He developed the plan and got the Columbia Park Neighborhood Association to support it before going to the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board (MPRB). It took 5 years, and perseverance through many “no” votes until it was finally approved by the MPRB. Vinny also organized the funding of $450,000 through a combination of MN State grant, Columbia Park Neighborhood Grant, personal and other private funding. It was opened in 1998.The dedication ceremony included Minneapolis Mayor, Minneapolis Park & Rec Director, Columbia Park Neighborhood Association President, members of the MPRB and representatives of Old Laurentians RFC.
The first match was Minneapolis Old Boys v Metro Old Boys. Followed by A and B side matches that day.
The Rock
Taken from the commemorative stone at "The Close" in Rugby England. The rock has been a part of Columbia Park since it was presented to us by our friends The Old Laurentian RFC as a dedication to our new field in 1997. Since then, it has been a source of good luck for any player who touches it before taking the field.
