Old Boys versus Colts
In what can only be desrcribed as a "technical clinic"
the combined forces of the Metropolis, Minneapolis, and Metro Old
Boys proved too much for the eager, but inexperienced Colts. The
Old Boys continued their 23-year domination of the annual fixture,
missing their 7th consecutive shutout by the narrowest of margins
courtesy of a sympathy penalty awarded late in the game.
The tone for the match was set when Jack Drakulich declared himself
fit and active for the match. Turns out he was wrong on both points.
Even so, the Colts had no counter to the Old Boys' rabbits on the
wing: Drakulich and Ed Viehman. The two finished breakaway after
breakaway, leaving the colts grasping at air. They combined for
a nifty try when Viehman sprinted the width of the field and deftly
looped Drakulich around the end to burst through and score from
10 meters out.
Not letting the backs have all the glory, eight-man Pete Connors
responded with tries off several key pick ups. The "molasses
dummy" was even more impressive than the "molasses pack."
Again, the Colts had no counter.
Tries: Drakulich (5), Viehman (4), Connors (4), Wildenberg (2)
Conversions: None attempted out of sympathy.
Actual Score
Colts 31
Old Boys 17
