Saturday, June 26, 2004 Iowa Falls, IA

We were pretty slim on number's this weekend, but a motley crew of the 2nd's traveled down anyway. We had a combination of 4 vet's with 3 teenager's represent Metropolis (including a couple 18 year olds and a 17 year old). We started the day matched up against Corralville 2nd side. We played them close for most of the match. In the closing seconds of the game though we found ourselves down 22-24, when a scramble on the left side of the field, midway, the ball popped out to the Metropolis winger who took it 60 meters for the score and the game.

In the second game of the day the B side tried the Jim Thorpe method. Apparently Jim Thorpe didn't play rugby as we found ourselves down by 4 tries against Des Moines in the first 5 minutes of the match. After getting going though, the 2nd's scored four of the next five tries to eventually run out of time with all the momentum and lose 22-29.

In the third place championship the 2nd's got matched up with Iowa Falls. Metropolis took the lead early with solid play getting smart play from Augie and notable defense from Joey Brown and Emerick. Final 24-12.

In the championship match, Corralville 1st played Des Moines. The speedy Corralville pounded through Des Moines' defense for an easy victory in the championship.
