Pearl City, Iowa

Metropolis 25
Pearl City 34

Metropolis traveled to Muscatine Iowa on Saturday to play our spring season opener against Pearl City, going down 25-34 in rapidly changing weather conditions. The team traveled light with a squad of 19, plus picking up a couple of young men (Zeus & Mike) from UNI there for the collegiate tournament being hosted by the locals, putting in a great effort for their first full outing this year, playing 3 x 30 minute halves (a 25, 35 & 30 to be exact due to passing Thunder Storm) and showing plenty of potential and a lot of heart.

Special mention goes to the Adam, Carp, Marty & Mike who pulled on the Metropolis Jersey for the first time on the weekend, with the last 2 never having played Rugby before, let alone Division 1 A side. Off field quote of the day came from Marty, with him come off the field after a rotation stating to me as a matter of fact that , “Apparently you are not allowed to Block in Rugby?” On field quote of the day goes to Tex with the double entendre, “Throw me the God Dam ball Hezeus” when supporting Zeus after he’d made a nice break in the opposition defense.

There were some nice positives coming out of the game, and as always, areas for improvement. There more time we spend together will get us where we need to be - See you at training!

Cheers,

Coach Rowlands
