June 10, Columbia Heights, MN

First Place: Coralville Reefers
Second Place: Metropolis 1
Third Place: Chicago Griffins
Fourth Place: Metropolis 2

The Minnesota Super 7's hosted by Metropolis was a spirited and fun event again in 2006. The qualifier's 12 teams included local favorites Metropolis and local challengers the St. Paul Pigs and the Eastside Banshees. In addition, perennial sevens contender, the Coralville Reefers again showed hoping to claim an elusive win while the Chicago Griffins returned to defend their 2005 championship.

Pool play in three round robin pools yielded three of the four finalists as winners: Metropolis 1, Metropolis 2, and Coralville. The fourth team was decided when a cagey and crafty, if not slow team of Metropolis Legends aced out a group of current Metropolis players, Ludicrous and paved the way for the Griffins into the semis.

The Griffins faced a very fit and fast Reefers squad in the first semi-final. Coralville never really looked down in the match, but it was likely the best defense they had faced yet in the day. They prevailed 24-14 for a berth into the final

Metropolis' two teams faced-off in the other semi with some spirited banter between the two clubs and something for the "A's" to prove as the "B's" beat them just a couple of short years ago. The "A's" won the game 40-0

Third place went to the Chicago Griffins with a 29-5 revenge from their loss the Metropolis B in pool play.

The championship match was mostly controlled by a Coralville side that had yet to win a Super 7's, placing 2nd or 3rd for six straight years. They came to play scoring off of the opening kick and never looking back. The boys from Metropolis mounted a solid effort with some linking plays that lead to trys without conversions. The hitting and the pace of the game left some tired players and fans at the end of the game. Coralville defeated Metropolis for their first Super 7's championship 38-22.
