Man of the Match: Kreblin

Game was closer than the score indicates. Metropolis capitalized on a number of Scioto Valley turnovers.

One injury on the weekend with Tex getting a knock on the noggin. Luckily it shouldn't hurt him.

October 1, Fargo, ND

Metropolis 32
Ruffians 25

The B-side was also victorious this past weekend. We traveled with 12 guys to Moorhead to play the Ruffians. The pitch was hard and dry. Players borrowed from the previous college game gave us the remaining bodies we needed at the hooker and lock positions.

About a minute into the match, our fearless leader Scotty was thrown in the bin. The best explanation why was attempted cannibalism while at the bottom of a ruck. Both teams were confused by the call, and the Ruffians rose to a 14-0 lead while we played short a man.

The match then evolved into a good ol' shootout. One for the highlight reel was Bryon Smith's 'Army of One' kickoff. The score had us 2 points ahead after the Ruffians scored. It was late in the game and the Metro Men were slowly trotting up for the kickoff - except Bryon. He sprinted to the 50 and caught them off guard with the kick (caught the rest of us off guard as
well). As ill-advised as that move was, everything came out all right with the referee finally calling the 6th or 7th knock to give us a scrum in excellent field position.

Final score: Ruffians - alot
Metropolis - alot plus 7.

Game length: 116 minutes (no, there was not an overtime)

Thanks to Bryon Smith for this additional information.

We played a team that was big and rather inexperienced. They had many college players on it. They came out early and were up 14-0 to start, but consistent play by our side got us close at half. We managed to edge them out in the end due to great tackling by Augie and hard running by Patrick out of the pack. We had a lot of players in new positions and a cluster of pack players mixed throughout. Highlight of the match was the sensational catch of a high towing kick on the run by Big Pete. Breathtaking.

Kyle, the winger, sprained his ankle fairly bad, but other than that, rather injury free, which is what we were going for. All in all, a victory.
