May 7, Columbia Height, MN

28 METROPOLIS BLUE, Captained by Shane "Nope" Myre
22
METROPOLIS GREY, Captained by Dave Heebner

Man of the Match:
Blue:
Matt "Jester" Jarolemik
Grey: Jamie "Second Row" Kohlbeck
Notes (from Rob Wagner): Earlier in the day Metropolis "Grey" took on Metropolis "Blue" in a very entertaining and fast paced match that may help settle some 1st XV selections come fall.

Third XV Match

10 METROPOLIS OLD BOYS and THIRD XV
20
EASTSIDE BANSHEES

Man of the Match: Mike O'Rourke at Scrum Half, Craig "gorilla" Peterson at Wing/Fullback
Notes (from Rob Wagner): The Banshees, short a couple of lost souls who leaked off to the MSU Alumni game, took on an interesting mix of Metropolis Old boys (mostly), new boys (several), B siders (I think) with an A-sider (not-so-secret weapon Andy Renner) or two tossed in (Renner counts as two). The men in green earned a 20-10 victory, Banshees Captain, Ben Johnson, sneaking in for two tries. "Retired" Banshees Herman Jass and Woody made solid contributions as well. For Metropolis Mike O'Rourke did a fine job at scrumhalf and Gorilla made several try-saving tackles on men a decade or two younger and touched down at least one try of his own. Horse also performed admirably after trying to sub-out, only to have the substitutioin limits force him to stay on 20 more minutes longer than the old bones may have been willing.

Also on Saturday a high school selects alumni team, featuring several current and former Jr. Eagles, took on 5-time State Champion Mounds View and showed them what a difference a bit of experience makes, socking it to the Mustangs. Mounds View, undefeated this season in league play, was overmatched by the fast-paced alumn who were lead by Joey Brown, Dave Karn, and Casey Cronk. U19 Jr. Eagles coach Salty Thompson handled referee duties.

On Sunday the U19 Select Side trials were held at Columbia Heights with Chad Augeson and Jason Payne putting the boys through their paces. Salty Thompson was again on hand to check out the Minnesota talent pool. Over 40 players were on hand to try out for the select side.
