Have any news or announcements you'd like to see here? 7's Practice and Upcoming EventsFrom Travis on Monday, May 12, at 10:58 AM7's schedule is up on the web site. First practice is this Tuesday, May 13th. It's a Captain's practice, so it's a players only practice.First real practice is May 15th, Thursday @ 6:30. Aaron Britt will be running the training to see if he'd like to coach this summer. AB has played at Nationals in 7's numerous times and worked under some great 7's coaches. He is a student of the modern game and understands what it takes to play at the top level of the game. Thursday will be a chance for him to see what the club is bringing to the table this summer, and for the club to see if they would like to work under him to head to Nationals again. A few other upcoming events: June 12th - TMF Golf tournament - This is the big fundraiser for the TMF. They have lost a number of big corporate donors over the last year, so we need help filling this tournament. If you aren't golfing, call Babs and plan on volunteering (especially if you are female and hot - they always bring in more money from old lecherous golfers). June 14th - Metropolis pub crawl. Jeremy from Legends is coordinating and still working with pubs and sponsors in the NE to make this a great evening. Put it on your calendar now and plan on attending. June 21st - Churchill Cup Finals in Chicago at Toyota Park. All 6 teams will play, USA, Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Argentina. Full day of rugby planned. Mark Dalton is coordinating the trip. We will probably car-pool since the whole club isn't going. Travis has a condo booked downtown that can host a few people for the weekend. We have tickets for the Chicago Rush (Arena Football) team on Sunday at 3pm for those that are staying. Contact Dalton if you are interested in going. July 3rd-6th: Taste of Minnesota. Plan on working at least a few shifts. We have the main stage again and plan on beating our record for beer sales again. July 26th - Metropolis Cash 7's tournament. Cash prizes for the winner. No qualifier points, just $$. At Columbia Park. Matchups to be decided, but they will play April 12-13. Four teams qualify for the national playoffs. CR3 (Midwest and South) Teams involved are Life, Nashville, Miami and Atlanta Old White from the South, and Metropolis, Palmer, South Side Irish and Pearl City from the Midwest. Metropolis at Life Palmer at Nashville Miami at SSI Old White at Pearl City teams play April 5 with the final seeding April 26-27. Four teams qualify. "We had a good start," said Adam Friend, Pearl City head coach as his team beat Kansas City 70-3 in a warmup Saturday. "We've been training inside mostly so we've been working on skills and fitness, and that was pretty good. I think the guys kept to the pattern and for the first 25 minutes or so it was a really competitive game." Pearl City got a good game from youngster Mike Bunce CR2 (West) All still mostly up in the air. Austin is virtually assured of the #1 spot from Texas, and therefore will play the #1 team from the Northern League for the #1 and #2 seeds to nationals. Who that team is from the North remains to be seen. Aspen won their second game in a row, a week after crushing Kansas City 98-7 they beat Bulder 28-19, with tries from Spencer Scott, Mike Hurley, Tom Johnson and Benny Rokobaleni. Coach Freddy Tukaki Waititi says the club is working hard now to get to the top. "We've straightened out our problems with foreign players," he said. "We played one game with one less than the five allowed. Our problems are getting guys to move here because it's so expensive to live here, and the snow. We're playing our home games 2 1/2 hours about because of the snow here in Aspen." Two games remain pending due to protests: Glendale v. Aspen from September, and Glendale v. Denver Highlanders in October. Glendale tied Denver and beat Aspen but those results are under question due to player eligibility. As it stands now, Boulder has complete their season and will certainly be passed by Denver, Glendale or Aspen. Glendale, listed at 3-0, actually has only one game left on its schedule as they await the rulings on the previous games. CR1 (Pacific Coast, Southern California) Still plenty to decide here as the leagues are far from over. Las Vegas and Los Angeles look to be the top teams in Southern California, while Olympic Club, San Mateo, Haggis and Hayward, in that order, appear to be the teams in Northern California. The eight teams play a series of two games and earn points toward the seedings. Five teams qualify. Killer B's Accepted into Minnesota DIIIFrom Travis on Wednesday, January 30, at 11:50 AMThe Metropolis B side, "The Killer B's" were accepted into the Minnesota DIII competition for the fall of 2008. Thanks to Anne Barry work working with the Mid-west and ensuring the B's will be able to advance and go to post-season competition. The fall schedule won't come out until they determine if the Banshees are going to advance to DII for next year.Start getting fit now and dust off those boots for a competative fall season. Travel is easy since the only team more than 90 minutes away is Canada. Other than that, kitchen passes should be easy to get. Our Killer B's will be coached by Mark Dalton. Roster requirements are easy, but we will need to maintain them online, which means you'll need to committ by Thursday if you can play that weekend. You can only play 1 league match (DI or DIII) each weekend, but there are no limits to playing up, so promotions are possible. To be able to compete is post season, a player must have played two league games for that team. The current DIII league consists of: The Eastside Banshees (may be promoted), The St. Paul Jazz Pigs, St. Cloud Bottom Feeders, Faribault Boksprings, Rochester Rogues, Minneapolis Mayhem, and the Lakehead Exiles (Canada).
